Leaf Aptus-II 12
"What I like most about this new Leaf Aptus-II 12 80MP digital back is its resolution and definition - I think it is the ideal platform for professionals who have a variety of work situations!
Pedro Nóbrega is an up and coming Lisbon-based advertising photographer. Although Pedro has not yet reached the age of thirty, he has managed to put more than 25 years of photography experience under his belt beginning at the tender age of 7 when his grandparents gave him a Polaroid during a holiday to Paris.
Pedro has a passion for medium format. He uses an 80 megapixel Leaf Aptus-II 12 to shoot advertising for big name international brands from the likes of Volkswagen, Opel and Vodafone as well as Portuguese brands like Sagres beer and ZonEmpresas. “What I like most about this new Leaf Aptus-II 12 80MP digital back is its resolution and definition!”
Pedro is extremely satisfied with his medium format Leaf Aptus-II 12, which he uses on a Phase One 645DF. “I think it is the ideal platform for professionals who have a variety of work situations. In this industry one day we shoot on a beach, and on the very next day we travel to shoot in the mountains; after that we may be shooting in the studio. My Leaf Aptus-II 12 on the 645DF camera achieves the versatility that photographers need.”
In addition to advertising Pedro has a passion for shooting landscape and travel shots. “These types of shots enable me to shoot with more photographic freedom. I explore shades, moods, points of view and I dare say that this is the kind of work where I can give wings to my creativity. The Leaf Aptus-II 12 is the perfect digital back for my landscape shots. The amount of definition that it detects in the highlights and shadows is unparalleled! The information in the black shades when the images are converted to CMYK is unbelievably detailed.”
After finishing his studies in arts and crafts at the age of 18, Pedro completed a set of courses that became the basis for his formation as a professional photographer and post-producer. “Even from a very early age I had a special interest in everything linked to images.” Pedro soon began working at a young advertising agency where he quickly became the head photographer. It was at this early stage in his career that his passion for great images “was fired up and made me aspire for much more.”
“At that time my working tools were a Canon 20D, a Mamiya ZD and a Rolleyflex 6008AF. My day-to-day work was almost always shooting industrial products which demanded a high level of lighting skills. It was a determinant for my formation because I had to study and test lights and shadows in every way that was possible.”
At the age of 25 Pedro made the move to the big city of Lisbon where he began working in post-production for one of Portugal’s biggest advertising agencies. “It was there I had the chance to work with more specific cameras such as Sinar, Leaf Aptus-II 8, Leaf Aptus-II 10, Mamiya RZPro and also lighting material like Profoto and Broncolor. This experience was really important for making inroads into the advertising environment with which I identify myself more and more. It is what I do everyday.”
Pedro is a strong advocate of digital photography. In the beginning of 2010 Pedro was invited to photograph for another leading Portuguese advertising agency where he had the opportunity to work with Francisco Prata, one of Portugal’s leading advertising photographers. “The contact with him has been very fruitful due to his background experience, especially the exchange of points of view. It has been the perfect symbiosis as I also give him some glimpses of the digital era of photography.”
“I try to give the highest expectations to my customers and I feel that it makes me became more demanding with myself. I feel that my techniques have been improving but I always expect a little bit more from my work. I think it will be an endless and pleasant journey – to search for the perfect shot.”
In Pedro’s day-to-day work as a photographer he shoots the things that really catch his eye... looks, moments, situations!
As an advertising photographer Pedro tries his best to consider his post-production while shooting and looks to capture the image with maximum accuracy.
Pedro’s main concern is to visualize the final look that is appropriate to each situation.
